Before I place my order to buy some Tahitian Moon Sand for my new Bolivian Ram Tank, I would like to know the pros and cons regarding this substrate from those who either have it now or have had it in the past. Since I already have a tank with all black substrate (3M Colorquartz, which is no longer made) I want to combine both the Tahitian Black Moon Sand with the Sunset Gold in my new tank.

The T-grade looks and behaves like sand, I definetely would not call it gravel, but it is a comparatively coarse sand - not sharp though. The S-grade is very fine, more like a powder, and feels very very smooth, due to the round particles. For pool applications, I believe they use S-grade .
May 14, 2009· I went through the 3m website to find someone local. It came up with 2 distributors in NJ but they don't sell to the public. I would have to go through a pool place myself. It was recommended to me to use the T grade which is a little coarser the S grade is fine. I haven't gotten it yet myself.

Doing this step ensures that we will not see the different layers of substrate when viewing the tank from the front and sides. In this instance I have chosen to use 3M Colorquartz T-Grade Black Sand as a substrate top layer.

Jan 22, 2012· The Caribsea Tahitian Moon Sand is still over four times the price that I'd been seeing for 3M Colorquartz, or Spectra Quartz, and I'd seen a few complaints about the Moon Sand as well. And Black Beauty sand which some use is far more inexpensive than that, but I don't really trust it.
