In the area of mineral processing, the activities centered around laboratory and plant level trails on innovative coal/mineral preparation equipment. These included Vorsyl separator, water only cyclone, Dyna Whirpool, air sparged hydro cyclone, multi gravity separator and tri flow separator .

The extent of coal cleaning is primarily dependent upon three core factors; (1) coal liberation, (2) coal washability, and (3) separator performance. The first factor has been dealt with in part 1.
